Fraser Foreshore Park is the wrong place for an organic waste recycling facility, this writer says.

Re: The City of Burnaby considering an organic waste recycling facility at the Fraser Foreshore Park area

The parkland is far too precious to be used for this purpose. This wetland area is a habitat; simply put, a home, for many birds and other animals. It is a life support system which filters water, protects the shoreline and provides an area for birds and other animals to raise their young. Do you enjoy breathing nice clean air? If yes, then say thank you to wetlands for providing sources of oxygen and water vapour to our atmosphere. This natural area also helps protect against flooding, and if I remember correctly, this area can be prone to flooding at times.Burnaby cannot compensate by “creating” fish habitat somewhere else. That has been tried many times before.

Not every park has to be a sports field to hold value. This one is for the birds , and wildlife deserves a place to thrive and a place to assist us hopeless humans in dealing with floods and reducing pollution.
