I sit here writing this piece knowing that my comments will be met with significant support but also with immediate opposition by those who do not believe that teachers and schools should be supporting the needs of 2SLGBTQIA+ students and educators.

As the official spokesperson for teachers in Newfoundland and Labrador, I also have the responsibility to shine a light on their realities. The NLTA has the right and responsibility to speak about issues affecting public education in this province and I believe that is in everyone’s best interest. While some gathered at rally say inclusive education in N.L.

"It is offensive and entirely unfair when attempts are made to intentionally mislead and anger the public by claiming, without proof, that teachers are trying to indoctrinate and sexualize students."As mentioned above, student safety is the primary concern for teachers. At any point, if the immediate safety of a child or youth is in question, proper steps are taken to inform school administrators and guardians.
