'Nothing was fine after what you did to me': Brittany Higgins has directly addressed her alleged rapist during a highly emotional cross-examination
Higgins has denied taking off her dress herself and lying on Reynolds’ office couch in Parliament House before falling asleep, saying Lehrmann was “violating me”.
Higgins said that was the context in which she agreed to spend the election campaign in Perth with Reynolds after raising the rape allegation with them. “That’s absolutely false,” Higgins replied, saying the pair were friends. “Cash gave me shoes … she was a good boss.”Higgins has accused Reynolds of disclosing the rape allegation to the former Liberal staffer’s new chief-of-staff, Daniel Try – who she worked for under former Coalition minister Michaelia Cash after the 2019 election – without her consent.
Whybrow put to Higgins that she alleged she had been sexually assaulted to keep her job after she was found naked on Reynolds’ office couch the morning after she and Lehrmann went to the suite in the early hours of March 23, 2019. She said it was raised as an option for her, but Reynolds “raised it in the context of the election … but there was no urging”, adding it was spoken about in the context of “something that women go through”.
