Legendary Sale of the Century champion Cary Young has died at the age of 83. Young's family said the quiz king passed away after a long battle with Alzheimer's. 9News
Cary Young, one of Sale Of The Century's most memorable champions, joins Glenn Ridge and Jo Bailey for the Tournament Of Champions in 1995.
"People just had this affection for him because he was just this very average person. He wasn't an academic or professional," his daughter Michelle said. "He was working in an abattoir when he went on the show - he saw an opportunity to make a better life for his family." Young became a household name after he won more than 60 episodes of the program.On the 21st birthday episode of Sale of the Century, Young was honoured as the show's most famous champion.Cary Young was recognised as the most famous of Sale of the Century's winners during its 21st birthday episode.
He won the Commonwealth Games tournament in 1986, the world championship in 1989 and was the winner of two masters tournaments in 1990 and 1997.
