Olympics: Australia has shocked the world and taken a solo lead in the medal count after a record day 1 for the country.
MOST SUCCESSFUL AUSSIE DAY 1 EVER | 00:58Ariarne Titmus has cemented her legacy as one of Australia’s greatest swimmers by winning gold in the women’s 400m freestyle final at Paris La Defence Arena on Sunday morning AEST.
It was Titmus’ third Olympic gold medal having won the 200m and 400m freestyle events in Tokyo three years ago. The Tasmania-born Queenslander has not lost a 400m freestyle race since 2018.“It’s a different feeling, winning it again after the first time. I know what it takes to be an Olympic champion.
“I did my best, I will forever be a back-to-back Olympic champion, which is really cool,” Titmus said.“There was a lot of expectation on me. I definitely felt it this week, more than ever. It is nice to have a monkey off my back now.”Gold medallist Ariarne Titmus. “I hope it goes to show that anyone can do what they want to do if they work hard and believe in themselves. “It’s nice to catch up to honestly, see her in marshalling and have a chat. And it’s fun racing the best in the world. It gets the best out of me, hopefully gets the best out of them. And I really hope that all the hype lived up to its expectation.”
