Muzzin skated in just four games for the Leafs this season as he’s spent months recovering from a cervical spine injury.
“After follow-up consultation this month with various specialists, our medical staff have determined that defencemanfor the rest of the 2022-23 regular season and playoffs as he recovers from a cervical spine injury,” the Leafs said in a news release.
Muzzin damaged his neck for the second time in his career when he collided with Arizona’s Clayton Keller on Oct. 17. In a playoff game against Columbus on Aug. 4, 2020, he was stretchered off the ice following a similar hit.The hard-nosed 34-year-old played only four games this season, recording one assist.The Leafs have used the cap space provided by Muzzin’s injury — $5.
