After Monday’s practice at the Ford Performance Centre, Maple Leafs players welcomed outpatients from Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children and their families for a Christmas get-together.
“We, as players, really enjoy seeing the kids and trying to put a smile on their faces,”said. “The relationship between the Leafs and Sick Children’s hospital has been strong for a very long time.”
Players signed autographs and helped decorate Christmas cookies for about 30 kids, all of whom are battling or recovering from diseases. The event was held in person after two years of virtual connections during the pandemic. “This means everything to these kids,” said Lisa Charendoff, associate director of the SickKids Foundation. “They carry burdens and scars from what they’ve been through, and today is about being a kid and having fun, and meeting their hockey heroes.”
