What was first reported as the theft of 330,000 customer records is now up to 14 million records, and counting.

, when the usernames, email addresses and passwords of around 140 million customers were stolen by a cybercriminal outfit going by the name GnosticPlayers.

Latitude will reimburse customers for the cost of replacing ID documents downloaded by the cybercriminals, who may have entered the Latitude system via the network of a US-based outsourcer, DXC Technology. The company had deliberately taken many of its systems offline after the attack, a common response given that attackers often remain in systems for many months after first detected.
