A new bill proposed in New South Wales parliament by the Legalise Cannabis Party has called for the removal of driving penalties for medical marijuana users in a move that could benefit 'hundreds of thousands'.
New South Wales MP Jeremy Buckingham, who leads the Legalise Cannabis Party, will introduce the bill to the state’s parliament on Wednesday, as she pushes for the landmark reform.
Mr Buckingham said the road safety system was “broken” as it handicapped people who were legitimately dependent on cannabis for chronic illnesses and held prescriptions for clinical use. He highlighted the current system allowed for prescribed users of far more potent opioids like Morphine and Endone to drive restriction-free, but not for the much “milder” drug cannabis.
