The property on the corner of the Bedford Highway and Larry Uteck Boulevard was approved for a development agreement in 2017 and is set to be replaced by a new build including 105 residential units and a commercial main level. And despite McGuire relocating to a spot she considers a better fit overall for her family, she said she “regrets the situation that made us do this,” so she filed a complaint under the Residential Tenancies Act.
Under the terms of the act, a tenant is entitled to compensation equal to the rent payable for the last three months, as well as additional entitlements, such as all or a portion of the amount of increased rent that the tenant was obliged to pay under the tenant’s new lease for up to 12 months.
