Labor has vowed to remove the frustrating fees in a move which could save drivers in New South Wales millions of dollars.
Opposition leader Chris Minns announced the policy on Monday, which promises to dump more than 50 million administrative charges attached to toll notices sent to drivers without e-tags.
“So just by consolidating the notices so you only get one in the mail rather than five or six letters indicating that you owe $10 each,” he said. Transurban also added they make no profit from the fees, which they say covers the work to process the charge. He has also announced a toll review, conducted by former ACCC chairman Alan Fels, if his party forms government.
Transurban, which operates all of Sydney’s toll roads with the exception of the Harbour Bridge and Tunnel, said they do not set the price of tolls.
