The Albanese government has claimed the effects of its election victory are now “clear in people’s bank accounts” after millions of Australians were given a major pay rise.

Australians on the minimum wage will from July 1 enjoy a record 8.6 per cent pay rise, while those on awards will benefit from a 5.75 per cent hike.

“The decision by the parliament last year, when I introduced Secure Jobs, Better Pay Bill was to put job security and gender equality at the heart of the decision-making of the Fair Work Commission. The 8.6 per cent minimum wage increase was thanks to a change in the alignment between the national minimum wage rate and the C14 award rate.

Mr Burke attempted to trample any suggestions the decision would lead to a surge in cost of living pressures.
