Housing affordability will take centre stage on Sunday as Labor unveils a “help to buy” scheme to get tens of thousands of people into new homes if the ALP wins government.

Under the policy, a Labor government would contribute up to 40 per cent of the purchase price of a new home and up to 30 per cent of the purchase price for an existing home. “This will help a lot of Australians buy a home with a smaller mortgage that they can afford to repay, instead of renting for the rest of their lives,” he said.
After Albanese caught COVID-19 and was forced to spend seven days in isolation, Labor wants to use Sunday’s launch to kickstart the party’s campaign heading into the final three weeks.
