When he saw the video of a Grade 10 learner slapping a fellow pupil he went cold.
“When I saw that video, I was angry and disappointed. I’m a parent myself, so if I saw a video of my child being beaten, I'd be furious,” he tells YOU. “We called a meeting with the parents of the perpetrator, and it was quite clear what we had to do,” he adds. Asked why the school didn’t opt to rehabilitate the perpetrator instead of expelling them, Johannes says it came down to the severity of the bullying.
“We needed to make sure our kids are safe because we don’t want it to spiral into something we cannot control. Every child deserves to feel safe.”
