Young Maple Leafs forward Nick Robertson again was a healthy scratch on Saturday. He has not played since Nov. 12.
Robertson came out of the lineup after a win, which can’t do much for his confidence. Keefe was pleased with Robertson’s practice work ethic on Friday, but that kind of thing can take the youngster only so far in his development. At some point, he has to get in games, if not for the Leafs, then with the Toronto Marlies.
“In terms of here Marlies, those are not my decisions. That is an organizational decision. We want to continue to work with him and have him around our group. After scoring twice against Dallas on Oct. 20, including the winner in overtime, Robertson did not score in his next nine games. His ice time dropped significantly from his first four games, and he played fewer than nine minutes against the Canucks.
“My mindset was to come down, have fun and help this team win and produce and work on the little things defensively. My game has elevated from working with the staff in this organization.”
