Siya Kolisi has claimed another illustrious honour by being named on TIME Magazine’s TIME100 list for 2024.
First published in 1999 by the American magazine, the TIME100 is an annual catalogue of the 100 most influential people in the world. Kolisi became just the second player to lead a successful defence of the World Cup title in November 2023, after captaining the Springboks to the 2019 title, following in the footsteps of former All Blacks flank Richie McCaw.
In both years, the 32-year-old had to overcome serious knee injuries that threatened his very participation in the tournament. Kolisi, the first black Springbok captain, has become a national icon, carving out an incredible career despite facing the immense challenges of poverty early on in his life.“It’s a profound responsibility to stand alongside individuals who dedicate their lives to enriching others. This recognition isn’t just for me; it reflects the numerous individuals and communities who have poured into me and shaped me to be person I am and am becoming.
