The speaker stated this on Thursday in an address while inaugurating the House Standing Committee on Public Accounts. He enjoined the legislators to ensure a good working relationship with all departments and agencies under the purview of the committee, adding that it was only a hitch-free working relationship that would engender growth and development of the state.
Speaking, the chairman of the Committee, Alhassan Zakariya Otokiti clarified that several sections of the constitution, empowers the Auditor General to audit public accounts and all offices and courts of the state and submit its reports to the House of Assembly. He said through the report, the Public Accounts Committee performs a type of legislative oversight by conducting investigations on the audited accounts among other responsibilities.
