After an under-pressure Queensland government buckled and reinstated breach of bail as a criminal offence, the state opposition has turned its attention to the use of knives in youth crime.

Opposition Leader David Crisafulli said the use of knives in youth crime had reached dangerous levels, but he was short of a concrete plan to tackle the problem.

When asked whether restrictions on knife purchases were needed, Crisafulli said it was easier said than done because, unlike guns, for example, knives are a kitchen staple. “That sort of policy is something for the government to consider, but knives are everywhere,” he said.
