Kingston police have declared a nuisance party in the city's University District as large crowds gather for Queen's University homecoming celebrations.

A nuisance party has been declared on Aberdeen St between Johnson St and Earl St. Attendees are hereby ordered to disperse and will be liable to an Administrative Monetary Penalty under the Nuisance Party Bylaw.Under the University District Safety Initiative, police have the power to declare "nuisance parties" and order crowds to disperse. People who do not heed calls to leave face fines.

Under the University District Safety Initiative, any party with individuals on the roof is automatically declared a nuisance party. Attendees can receive a $500 fine.Last year, bylaw officers handed out more than $44,000 worth of fines during homecoming weekend. Police arrested eight people and laid three criminal charges for impaired driving and weapon possession.
