King Charles III will be crowned on May 6 next year, Buckingham Palace has announced.
"The coronation will reflect the monarch's role today and look towards the future, while being rooted in longstanding traditions and pageantry," the palace said, in a statement released this morning. The reigning archbishop has traditionally, with a few exceptions, overseen the tradition-heavy coronation at the abbey for more than 900 years.At the climax of the Anglican ceremony, Welby will place the solid gold St Edward's Crown, dating from 1661, on the monarch's head.
