If you’re looking for something to do with your children this summer, you can visit the Kids’ Safety Village in Whitby.Parents can bring their children to the fenced-in village.“Our [tiny] houses are open,” said Ford. “We have colouring. We have different activities during the day, different games with the kids and it’s been such a successful summer so far.”Children are welcome to use the bikes and scooters at the village, but you can bring your own if you want.

This year, there are dozens of student volunteers lending a helping hand and extra sets of eyes, but Ford stressed you still need to be with your child when visiting. “There is a waiver you have to sign and yes, you have to stay with your child,” said Ford. “It’s a drop-in program, not a drop off program.”

She says volunteers will help man the front gates and do activities with the children as they earn their high school volunteer hours. If there are any changes to the daily schedule, they will be posted on theFord says they launched the drop-in program last year and says this year, they’ve already doubled their numbers.

“Our first week last year, we had about 200 kids during the week,” she explained. “This week, we’re close to 450 kids. So we’re gaining popularity and people are loving it.”File photo courtesy of Kids’ Safety Village on FacebookCtrl+Enter
