Anthony Albanese has revealed former prime minister Kevin Rudd will be appointed the next US Ambassador despite rubbishing the claims as 'complete nonsense' during the federal election campaign.
Former prime minister Kevin Rudd will become Australia’s next ambassador to the United States despite senior Labor frontbenchers previously rubbishing earlier reports that he would be given the prized position.
Mr Albanese told 4BC radio in Brisbane that speculation surrounding a promised appointment to the plum posting was “complete nonsense”. The Prime Minister was grilled on Labor’s decision to give Dr Rudd the role moments after he made the announcement during a press conference with Foreign Minister Penny Wong’s about her trip to China.
“He brings a great deal of credit to Australia by agreeing to take up this position as a former prime minister, as a former foreign minister, as someone who's been head of the Asia Society, and as someone who has links with the global community.”
