KENSINGTON, P.E.I. — After winning the P.E.I. and Atlantic championships, the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild will write the team’s final chapter to the 2023-24 season at the Telus Cup.
“We have faced a lot of adversity this season and we’ve been through a lot of ups and downs,” said 17-year-old Wild defenceman Isaac Taweel of Hunter River. “I didn’t really think we’d be in the Telus Cup at the start of the year. It’s unbelievable – we are playing the top teams in Canada and looking forward to it.”
“We have to use our strength a lot and we are a physical team,” said 16-year-old Wild forward Derek Andrews of Hunter River. “I’d say most other teams have more skill in their league and are faster with less physicality, so if we can wear teams down it will . “We went up there and played some really good teams,” said Taweel. “We didn’t do as good as we wanted to, but after that we turned it around and played really .”
In the P.E.I. playoffs, Gallant went 4-0-0 with a 2.00 goals-against average and a .932 save percentage. At the Atlantics, Gallant, who played every period except one, had a 1.64 GAA and .951 save percentage in the round robin. Gallant registered a 43-save shutout in the final. Members of the Kensington Monaghan Farms Wild congratulate each other after winning the P.E.I. major under-18 hockey championship in Charlottetown on March 16. The Wild went on to win the Atlantic championship in Lantz, N.S., on April 7, and will represent the Atlantic region at the Telus Cup Canadian championship in Membertou, N.S., from April 22 to 28.
