Grayish ash plumes erupted from the summit of Kanlaon Volcano early Friday morning, January 24, 2025, rising 200 meters above the crater and drifting westward, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said. Time-lapse footage recorded between 07:01 a.m. and 07:30 a.m. by the Kanlaon Volcano Observatory’s Canlaon City IP camera showed ongoing volcanic activity at the site. Authorities said Kanlaon Volcano remains under Alert Level 3 .
Alert Level 3 means that a volcano is experiencing magmatic unrest and has an increased chance of eruption, the Phivolcs said. The eruption of Kanlaon Volcano on Negros Island has affected 47,255 people as of Friday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Center (NDRRMC) said. In its Situational Report No. 49 Friday, the NDRRMC said the total number of affected individuals accounts for 12,286 families in 27 barangays. The disaster bureau said a total of 23 evacuation centers (EC) were housing 3,107 families, totaling 9,834 individuals. Some 2,652 families, or 8,388 individuals, were also receiving aid outside of ECs. Classes were also suspended in 17 cities/municipalities in Western Visayas and one in Central Visayas. Residents and local authorities are advised to stay alert and adhere to safety measures.
