The loss to Angola undoubtedly, was a bitter pill to swallow for Gilas Pilipinas. But young center Kai Sotto chose to dwell on the positives as the Philippines tries to pick up the pieces from its shattered confidence on Sunday night.
Gilas wasted an 11-point lead in the second period, committing turnovers and suffering from poor shooting from three-point zone, thus allowing Angola to score an 80-70 come-from-behind win in their 2023 FIBA World Cup group stage game.'I think we had a good fightback and we had a close fight in the first half. But by the third quarter, we had some lapses, turnovers and they made their run, which made it difficult for us to come back,' Sotto said after the game.
Statistically, Sotto managed to provide something for Gilas, considering that the 21-year-old Filipino big man lasted just 73 seconds in the national team's 87-81 loss to the Dominican Republic on opening night, on Friday at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.Sotto admitted his limited minutes against the Dominicana gave him time to study the game and how he could contribute once given the chance.
