The San Juan City local government officially launched on Thursday, Jan. 12, the Kadiwa Truck as part of the national government’s efforts in bringing cheap, quality produce to the public amid the rising prices of basic commodities.
San Juan City Mayor Francis Zamora led the launch of the program in Barangay St. Joseph and explained that the Kadiwa on Wheels initiative of the Office of the President and the Department of Agriculture will now be visiting different barangays in various cities as they expanded the program’s reach to more people.
“We look at this as a two-way thing. The farmers sell their fresh produce to us in San Juan City at affordable yet still competitive prices, and in return, we make sure their products are sold out and they go home happy,” Zamora said. Zamora explained that in other markets and groceries, a kilo of onion ranges from P500-600. Fruits and vegetables are priced P15-20 cheaper in the Kadiwa on Wheels than in the markets.
