Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s plan to keep his party’s message focused on the economy faltered Thursday in the face of revelations his successful online brand may have been built in part through outreach into misogynistic online communities.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, along with several cabinet ministers and Liberal MPs, pounced in the wake of a report that Poilievre’s YouTube videos have for many years included the acronym for the “Men Going Their Own Way” movement as one of the many tags used to expand online viewership.
“Women across this country want to know why he allowed this to happen and want to see him take responsibility for it.” “We condemn all of that behaviour,” Poilievre said. “We condemn misogyny always and everywhere and we ask the prime minister to finally do the same.” The latter is expected to be a focus for the Liberals with the start this month of the commission exploring the use of the Emergencies Act in response to the so-called “Freedom Convoy” protests earlier this year.
