Turning the issue into a political football when Canada’s top security and civil servants assert election results weren’t affected is wrong, Trudeau says.
OTTAWA—Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused his rivals Wednesday of turning the issue of foreign election interference into a partisan political game — and playing right into the hands of those seeking to destabilize Canadian democracy.
“And when we lean in on partisanship around this, we’re actually helping them in doing their work of sowing confusion and mistrust.” The Conservatives continued that argument at a House of Commons committee Tuesday as they demanded the expansion of an ongoing study into foreign interference to include the recent media reports.
Instead, they have repeatedly stressed security agencies are on top of the problem, and Canadians can trust them.
