Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has gotten his facts wrong when defending Transport Minister Catherine King’s refusal to appear before a senate inquiry.

Ms King has rebuffed calls to appear before an inquiry examining her decision to block Qatar Airways operating 28 additional flights in Australia each week, with the minister labelling the request a “political stunt”.

While it is unusual for members of the lower house to appear before senate inquiries, it has occurred before – as Liberal senator Simon Birmingham pointed out on Sky News Australia. “They checked with the minister's office, and the response they got was for the minister's office to say, if the committee wants to know they should ask the Minister. “We also know that she said Alan Joyce wasn't happy about it, and that she was talking to him in the next few days,” Senator Birmingham said.
