The entire hockey world was in shock after learning of Kazbekov’s sudden death early Saturday, none more than his Knights family and the people closest to him. The 18-year-old forward played in London’s 5-2 victory over Owen Sound Friday night at Budweiser Gardens – the team’s 15th win in its past 17 games.Article content“There are so many words to use – I’m devastated and heartbroken,” Marty Iazovtsky, Kazbekov’s agent at the ATA Sport Management firm, said.
“After we did that, he told me he had another son he wanted to bring here,” Iazovtsky said. “We went through that whole process of getting him cleared for the standards of the OHL. I thought Abakar was great. He was one of the boys who didn’t let a language barrier bother him. I’ve seen teams where you have an outsider that gets treated like one. He was an outsider but got treated as one of the guys right away.
Kazbekov played just nine games last year as a rookie, in part due to a nagging shoulder issue. The 6-foot-1, 177-pounder did manage to score his first OHL goal in just his second career outing at Owen Sound Oct. 9, 2021. London police blocked off the intersection of Talbot Street and Dufferin Avenue after a person was found dead outside a luxury condo building on Dec. 17, 2022.
