Wikileaks founder Julian Assange has been found guilty this morning of breaching bail and is also facing charges in for conspiracy to hack classified computers in the US. 9News
Speaking to the media following his court appearance, Assange’s lawyer Jen Robinson said his case “sets a dangerous precedent for all media and journalists around the world."
It alleges that in March 2010, Assange engaged in a conspiracy with Manning, a former intelligence analyst in the US Army, to assist her in cracking a password stored on US Department of Defense computers connected to the Secret Internet Protocol Network , a US government network used for classified documents and communications.
The indictment claims "real-time discussions" between Assange and Manning, with the Australian "actively encouraging Manning to provide more information". "I am confident, as the United Kingdom Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt publicly confirmed in July 2018, that Mr Assange will receive due process in the legal proceedings he faces in the United Kingdom," she said in a statement.
Assange's mother, Christine Assange, took aim at President Moreno, saying she hoped the Ecuadorean people "seek vengeance upon you, you dirty, deceitful, rotten traitor". In 2017, Sweden's top prosecutor dropped the long-running inquiry into a rape claim against Assange, saying there was no way to have Assange detained or charged within a foreseeable future because of his protected status inside the embassy.
