A judge has set aside a decision against the insurers who refused a claim by a company that had a solid gold sculpture of an eagle valued at more than $900,000 stolen.
A judge has set aside a default judgment in a case in which an insurance claim was denied after the theft of a solid gold eagle statue that its owner claimed had an appraised worth of more than $900,000.
The final winner of the treasure hunt was to win $1 million. The company intended to sell the gold eagle sculpture at the end of the hunt to help finance the final prize with the rest of the proceeds to be donated to cancer research, according to the company’s lawsuit. Shore’s company filed an insurance claim for the loss but was denied. He sued Lloyd’s Underwriters and Endeavour Insurance Services Ltd. He made a number of claims, including that the insurers were unresponsive, abrasive and combative with him, claims that the insurers denied.
The insurers went to court in a bid to overturn the ruling and get more particulars from the plaintiff.
