Barnaby Joyce slammed the Labor government for acting “socialist”, claiming it was 'more fascinated' with the Voice to Parliament ahead of the cost of living crisis affecting Australians.

The former deputy prime minister told Sky New Australia Labor's lack of attentiveness to rising costs was a symptom of socialism.

Mr Joyce criticised the government for the rise in taxes, which come as Australians struggle with high interest and inflation rates, a rise in rental and house prices and a spike in grocery and utility bills. “If you want to make money fairly then let businesses make as much money as they can but they can’t do that if they have a bevy of regulations, environment biodiversity offsets, a power bill that’s absolutely crippling or going through the roof.
