Joo Ven shared the messages threatening and abusing him and his family on his Twitter and condemned the senders.“Once, I was even abused after winning a match.“I read that Scotland’s women’s singles player Kirsty Gilmour was also abused.Gilmour had been sent rape and death threats after losing 19-21, 12-21 to Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska in the first round.

On whether he had taken any action against the senders, Joo Ven said: “No, I’m really not sure what to do about this. “This is a very bad thing but it’s beyond my control. I can only focus on myself and ignore all these.”“I was carrying a heel injury before the match,” said Joo Ven.“The swelling worsened during my first round match against Ng Tze Yong and I was forced to pull out while trailing 4-13 in the third game.“I tried to push myself and wanted to finish the match although the tournament doctor advised me to pull out.

“It’s very frustrating to deal with all these injuries and my only aim now is to completely recover and compete again.”
