JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested 36 men for violating the licence and permit to sell firecrackers and fireworks by selling prohibited items.

Johor police chief Comm Datuk Kamarul Zaman Mamat said the arrests were made during the enforcement period between March 28 and April 26, with a total of 712 firecrackers and fireworks confiscated in the same period.

“Out of the 33, 18 investigation papers have been charged in court under the Permit to Purchase Explosives under the Explosives Rules 1923, which carries a maximum fine of RM300,” he said in a statement here on Thursday . Meanwhile, in an unrelated case, Comm Kamarul Zaman informed that a total of 18 fatal accidents have been recorded during Ops Selamat 20 from April 20 to April 27.
