Dick's Brook Bridge in Gros Morne National Park before construction was completed.CORNER BROOK, N.L. — Johnson’s Construction has been ordered to pay $60,000 in fines for offences related to a workplace accident in Gros Morne National Park in 2020.

The company was later charged with failing to ensure its employees were familiar with the safety hazards that arose at a worksite; failing to create a “written work procedure” appropriate to the hazards involved; and failing to “immediately” notify the Division of Occupational Health and Safety of the occurrence of an accident. The offences fall under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations.

Of the three current offences, he viewed the company’s failure to ensure its employees were familiar with the health and safety hazards that might arise as the most serious of the offences.
