A Canadian family of Syrian refugees, whose chocolates and journey captured the hearts of the world, had their confectionary offerings presented to the president of the United States.

A special moment that shows chocolate brings nations together. I’m so excited to participate in the formal events tonight in Ottawa,” Tareq Hadhad,In 2012, Hadhad and his family were forced to flee their home in Syria after the start of.
For almost three years, Hadhad and his family lived in a Lebanese refugee camp, before arriving in Canada in 2015 and settling in Antigonish, N.S. A year later, the Hadhads decided to rebuild their company, launching Peace by Chocolate in 2016. It started with just one kind of chocolate bar, made in their home kitchen and sold at the local farmers’ market.
Some five years later, in 2021, they had more than 60 chocolate products, which combine flavours from Syria with Canadian ingredients, like Nova Scotian wild blueberries and maple cream. In addition to a store in Antigonish, they also operate a flagship location in Halifax.. “At the end of the day, we are not in the business of only making chocolate; we’re in the business of making peace.”
