The latest labour force survey shows an overall increase of 150,000 jobs, with the health care sector seeing gains of 40,000.

The latestNationally, employment increased by 150,000 in January, with 80 per cent of those jobs being full-time work, following an unexpected increase of 104,000 jobs in the previous month driven primarily by young people. This job growth trend has continued since September of last year, with a cumulative job creation total of 326,000, and the labour participation rate in the economy outpacing population growth.

January’s labour force increase was driven by core workers aged 25 to 54, split evenly between men and women. The largest employment growth was found in Ontario , Quebec and Alberta , while the jobs rate declined in Newfoundland and Labrador.
