The CEO of Jetstar has made a bold statement about the budget carrier's operations as she issued a stunning apology and urged Australians to give the airline 'a go'.

The budget carrier's CEO Stephanie Tully made the admission on Tuesday during a wide-ranging interview about the airline's operations with 3AW's Ross and Russel.

"But we want everyone to give Jetstar a go. I think Jetstar, we turn 20 next year, we've flown 400 million people since our inception and we play a unique role in Australia. Ms Tully said Jetstar had been"working really hard" to improve its on-time performance and while cancelled flights were"unavoidable in some circumstances where there's weather or other things", the airline wants"to minimise those for our customers".

For departures, 66.2 per cent of Jetstar flights departed on-time, while for Virgin Australia the figure was 67.6 per cent, for Qantas it was 71.4 per cent, for Rex Airlines it was 75.6 per cent and for Skytrans it was 80.5 per cent. "We had a number of supply chain issues with parts etc, so we've had to work extra hard and do extra things to make sure Jetstar's performing the way people expect," she said.

"After two to three years of being locked up, everyone wants a holiday. That supply and demand means that you've seen higher prices, particularly internationally.
