PETALING JAYA: Jasin Umno Youth urges the government to strip former national trainee shuttler Bong Guang Yik's Malaysian citizenship for his comments touching on race and religion on social media.

The wing's chief Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh says Bong's remarks were unacceptable and cannot be taken lightly as they could lead to untoward situations."His remarks could cause an uproar if not addressed immediately.

"As a former national trainee shuttler, Bong should know that he shouldn't make sensitive remarks about race and religion no matter what the reason is," he told Sinar Harian after lodging a police report on the matter at the Merlimau police station on Monday night. The Merlimau assemblyman also said Bong's apology was not enough and he should be penalised to prevent others from touching on sensitive matters.

"If you're going to suspend a national athlete for making sensitive remarks on social media, you should also penalise Bong for his actions," the Melaka Health and Anti-Drug Committee chairman said. On Monday , former world No. 1 shuttler Datuk Lee Chong Wei had expressed regret over Bong's remarks.“In pursuit of fame, don’t tarnish the harmony that was built over the decades.Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and the Badminton Association of Malaysia had also condemned Bong's remarks.
