Takaaki almost broke the record set by current world No.1 Soh Wai Ching in the 2019 run.
The record-holder did not compete this time but was present to motivate the runners.“I came to know of Sibu Tower Run from Soh and brought two friends to compete,” he added.
Takaaki has won several titles in his eight years of participating in tower runs. His most outstanding achievement was winning the 2019 World Championship Shanghai Tower Run, which has over 3,000 steps.The Women’s Elite category was won by Yan Wei Cheong, followed by Michele Bee Kiang Tan and Chikako Harada.The Women’s Open saw Yee Ling Yong finish first, followed by Chrystie Tiong and Wan Yi Yeong.
Sibu Tower Run 2023 saw the participation of more than 250 runners including Brunei , Singapore , Japan , Taipei , Hong Kong , Pakistan and Malaysia . Prizes were presented by Sibu Municipal Council chairman Clarence Ting and Pelawan assemblyman Michael Tiang.
