Charlottetown Islanders defenceman Jacob Squires, 15, salutes the crowd at Eastlink Centre in Charlottetown following a New Year’s Eve matinee against the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Squires announced earlier in the day the game would be his final one in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League as he is stepping away from hockey for the time being. “Obviously, it’s a rebuilding team, and I’m an older guy,” said Squires. “I think I was able to do my part in the first half and show them what it takes to be in the Q. “We’ll see what happens there, and I’m not closing any doors,” said Squires. “Whenever the time is right, I will make the decision whether I’m done or not. Right now, I’m going to step back and focus on what’s important.”
