Jacinda Ardern has announced she is “quitting the prime ministership” of New Zealand before an election she was “tipped to lose”, says Sky News Political Editor Andrew Clennell.
“A Prime Minister for five years and a friend of Anthony Albanese, Ardern’s departure follows battles with inflation and labour shortages post-COVID in New Zealand, which saw the gloss come off previously stratospheric approval ratings,” Mr Clennell said.
He said “in Julia Gillard style”, Ms Ardern announced an election date 10 months out, which has been revealed to be set for October 14.
