Lynette Borgal knew Fiona's hurricane-force winds damaged her Glace Bay home. However, the 45-year-old didn't know how badly the roof was damaged until Nov. 26 when it began raining in her living room. | SaltWire

Lynette Borgal is hopeful her roof and living room will be fixed in another week, which would be 18 days since she first reported it to Cape Breton Island Housing Authority. While it was promising to see crews arrive Tuesday morning, she's also hesitant to get her hopes up as she waited two years to have a leak fixed in the bathroom of a different community housing unit she lived in. NICOLE SULLIVAN/CAPE BRETON POST - Nicole SullivanGLACE BAY, N.S.

After post-tropical storm Fiona's devastation, Borgal said the housing authority sent crews to assess the damage and they put a tarp over the damaged area of the roof. Borgal reported it to the housing authority, which is overseen by the Nova Scotia Department of Community Services. Borgal also said she was told by housing authority staff the unit has asbestos in it since other units close to her that were built at the same time were tested and found to have it.

First, the roof needs to be repaired before the living room can be done. Borgal is hopeful it will be done in a week but she has doubts due to past experiences. At a unit she lived in before moving to her current home on Shaft Street, Borgal said it took two years to get a leak fixed in her bathroom.
