OPINION Most Canadians want Justin Trudeau to take his walk in the snow. He could use what's left of his mandate to try to get reelected, or he implement some hard decisions, political fortunes be damned, writes ppforumca fellow LoriLturnbul
A lot of Canadians would like to see Justin Trudeau take his walk in the snow. The prime minister walks to a government plane in Ottawa on Nov. 9, 2018. The Liberals have been in power for just over seven years and are into their third mandate. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has been leader of the party for nearly 10 years and, according to anreleased at the end of 2022, most Canadians want him to take his walk in the snow before the next election.
The voter fatigue is palpable. This is a problem for the Liberals if they want to seek a fourth term, but also an opportunity to leave a transformative legacy. The Liberals might be tempted, as politicians often are, to cling to power. If they play it safe politically, abide by public opinion polls and capitalize on Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre’s stymied popularity, they might win a plurality of seats in the next election.
