Tarantulas are crawling all over Texas, but are they dangerous?

There are 14 species of tarantulas in Texas, but it takes a lot, including a microscope to identify the individual species, according to the Texas A&M guide. The most common type of tarantula you'll see locally is the Texas brown tarantula. Like other spiders, they have fangs that inject venom when they bite prey, but bites to humans are generally not serious, the Texas A&M guide stated. But don't test your luck by disturbing one. When a tarantula is threatened it will raise up its hind legs and stretch out its front legs.
