Keith Delaney, a seemingly ageless elder statesman in N.L. senior hockey, is back on home ice these days and eager to bring another AESHL title back to Harbour Grace.
This is Delaney’s first year back with the CeeBees after a decade spent with the Clarenville Caribous, first in the defunct Newfoundland and Labrador Senior Hockey League and the AESHL, after a trade away from Harbour Grace in 2013.
And he was appreciated on that team, too — when he returned to Clarenville earlier this season, he was gifted his Caribous jersey.His return to the CeeBees, where he won the Herder Memorial Trophy four times — he won another in Clarenville after the trade — has meant a return to the familiar. Above all of that, though, there's another important reason for his return — it means more time spent with his family.
On top of getting his own workouts in during the morning, there are practice and game days, making sure he’s on top of work, being a dad and getting his daughters to their extracurricular activities, as well as being involved with the Delaney Hockey Program he started with his brother.“I guess not having provincial definitely helps me personally, because that's more time I'm around. The proximity of the teams helps me personally, even though I love the provincial league.
