Parents and children do their last minute shopping for school supplies from a community school store near the Sta. Cruz Elementary School and Antipolo National High School on Olalia Road, Barangay Dela Paz, Antipolo City. The Department of Education announced Monday that it’s all systems go for today’s reopening of classes.

“In general, I can say that it’s all systems go for today’s opening of classes. 100 percent of our schools participated in the Brigada Eskwela to prepare for the opening of classes,” DepEd Assistant Secretary Francis Cesar Bringas said. As of 2:00 p.m. of August 28, 2023, the DepEd said the total number of enrollees reached 22,676,964 based on the Learner Information System Quick Count.

Most of the enrollees came from Calabarzon with 3,465,598, followed by Central Luzon with 2, 586,926, and the National Capital Region with 2,480,970.Earlier, the DepEd said that they are expecting 28.8 million enrollees from both private and public schools. “[This is just an] assumption…based on annual growth rate,” said Undersecretary and spokesperson Michael Wesley Poa.“Since usual naman po na maraming nag-e-enroll on the first of classes and days after,” Poa added.
