Sky News host Sharri Markson says Elon Musk has revealed the social media platform Twitter has been “handing over” private messages to government agencies.

She said the social media platform has, in effect, been acting as a “spying tool” for foreign governments as well as the US government.

“How can a social media company hand over your private messages to intelligence agencies, to foreign governments without your permission,” Ms Markson said. “It’s a scandal, and there needs to be an inquiry into how many people’s messages in which countries have been handed over to which foreign governments and for what purpose.”
