Of the 55,000 members, 41,559 voted and 30,330 approved the deal. Voting wrapped up Sunday night.
The result was announced Monday morning at Queen’s Park by Laura Walton, president of CUPE’s Ontario School Boards Council of Unions.Workers began casting ballots online on Nov. 24 and voting wrapped up Sunday night.
“My coworkers and I stood up to the Ford government to get a forced contract off our backs as part of the repeal of the anti-worker Bill 28,” said Laura Walton, who is president of the Canadian Union of Public Employees school boards’ bargaining unit. “... For the last week and a half, 55,000 frontline education workers considered whether the tentative agreement their bargaining committee negotiated is acceptable, and the majority said yes,” Walton said.
He said in a statement that “students need stability, and it is my sincere hope that everyone will come together to keep children learning in class without disruption right to June.”
